October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October,  Ascendant Diagnostics is proud to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point during her life. After skin cancer breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in women.

Currently the most effective screening method available for breast cancer is mammography. It’s important for you to talk to your doctor about your risk for breast cancer so you can decide together when and how often to get mammograms.

However Ascendant Diagnostics believes there is a potential for innovative new screening techniques to substantially increase the accuracy of breast cancer diagnostics, enable detection of disease at the earliest possible stage and improve patient compliance.

MelodyDx™, the company's first product in development, is a patent-pending biomarker panel, which distinguishes differences in proteins present in human tears in order to detect breast cancer. "The goal of our screening tool is to increase breast cancer detection at earlier stages while also reducing unnecessary exposure to radiation and painful biopsy procedures," says Omid Moghadam, CEO, Ascendant Diagnostics. "To date, the biggest challenge to increasing the survival rate from breast cancer is accurate early detection."

The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it's treated early. Be sure to talk to your doctor about your particular risks for breast cancer and which lifestyle changes and screenings can help you protect yourself.
